YouTube Analytics Connection
In this guide:
Introduction
In this guide, we’ll go over how to create the YouTube Analytics Connection for BlinkMetrics. This will allow BlinkMetrics to pull data from YouTube Analytics as a Source.
Authorizing YouTube Analytics Connection
1. Go to the Connections Page
To create the YouTube Analytics Connection, click on the Settings cog icon in the header > select the Connections menu item. This will open the Connections page. Next, click the Add Connection button.

2. Add Connection
From the Connection Stepper interface, select YouTube Analytics in the Select Source tab. In the Set Up Credentials tab, click the Continue with YouTube Analytics button.

Clicking Continue with YouTube Analytics will redirect you to Google’s Sign-In process.

To authorize BlinkMetrics with YouTube and Google:
- First, select the Google account.
- Make sure to select the account that owns the YouTube channel you’d like to connect with BlinkMetrics.
- Select a YouTube account to connect with:
- Brand Accounts: select the Branded channel. Do not select the email address account.
- Next, agree and click Continue to Sign in to BlinkMetrics.io.
- Lastly, you’ll reach the authorization page;
BlinkMetrics.io wants access to your Google Account.
It’ll ask you to review what BlinkMetrics.io can access. Click on Select All and Continue:- View monetary and non-monetary YouTube Analytics reports(e.g., views and earnings reports) for your YouTube channels and videos
- View your videos and playlists
- View your YouTube activity
- View YouTube Analytics reports for your YouTube channels and videos
You’ll be redirected back to BlinkMetrics when you’re done.

Permissions Needed
To create a successful API connection to YouTube Analytics, you’ll need to have the following roles:
YouTube Channel Type | Role |
---|---|
Regular YouTube Channel | Owner |
Brand Account | Primary Owner (NOT Owner) |
YouTube doesn’t support invited users accessing and connecting to the APIs. If you don’t have the right role, Google may reject the connection, or your metrics will not populate in BlinkMetrics. Get help from the primary account owner to successfully create the connection with BlinkMetrics.
Plan Needed
Any free account that manages a YouTube Channel with the right role can create the connection. You don’t need a paid YouTube subscription to make this connection.
Though API rates do apply, BlinkMetrics manages them smoothly. Our code automatically detects when we’re nearing the limit and slows down calls as needed to stay within it.
3. Review Privacy and Save Connection
From here, you can see an overview of the following:
- Connection Status
- Date Connected On
- User Connected By
From here, you can also edit the following:
- Connection Name: Used for organizational purposes, each Source can have multiple Connections, so it’s helpful to see who authorized the Connection or which account it was connected to.
- Organization: Select the YouTube Analytics Account that you’d like to associate with this Connection.
- Privacy: You can choose who it’s shared with: Shared with Workspace, Private to Me, or Shared with Team.
When you’re done, click Save, and now you’re done! You can now use the Connection to pull data from the YouTube Analytics Source.
