X Ads Connection
In this guide:
Introduction
In this guide, we’ll go over how to create the X Ads Connection for BlinkMetrics. This will allow BlinkMetrics to pull data from X Ads as a Source.
Authorizing X Ads Connection
1. Go to the Connections Page
To create the X Ads Connection, click on the Settings cog icon in the header > select the Connections menu item. This will open the Connections page. Next, click the Add Connection button.
2. Add Connection
From the Connection Stepper interface, select X Ads in the Select Source tab. In the Set Up Credentials tab, click the Continue with X Ads button.
Try to log into your X account before completing the connection process; otherwise, you’ll be prompted to Sign In before allowing you to Authorize App.
This initiates the permission-granting process so that BlinkMetrics can connect to your X Ads account. Authorizing BlinkMetrics will allow permission to:
- See Posts from your timeline (including protected Posts) as well as your Lists and collections.
- See your X profile information and account settings.
- See accounts you follow, mute, and block.
- See, create, and manage your advertising data, including:
- Campaigns
- Audiences
- Business and ad account information
- Ad account and user settings
- Creatives and media
If you’re not signed in, you’ll need to complete the Sign In process before continuing. Once logged in, click Authorize App to continue and redirect back to BlinkMetrics.
Permissions Needed
The X Ads API mimics the capabilities of your user account-level permissions. As long as you have access to a feature in your X Ads account, all of the metrics related to that account-level permission will also be available to use.
To see your account permission level, go to X Dashboard > Ads > Business Settings > Collaborators > People and see the Roles under the Ad Accounts panel. If you don’t have a compatible Role to connect to BlinkMetrics, contact the Business Administrator for the Ads account.
Account-Level | Metric Permissions |
---|---|
Account Administrator | Campaign and Account Metrics |
Ad Manager | Campaign and Account Metrics |
Creative Manager | Campaign and Account Metrics |
Campaign Analyst | Campaign and Account Metrics |
Organic Analyst | No Metrics |
Partner Audience Manager | No Metrics |
Tweet Composer | No Metrics |
Though API rates do apply and vary across plans, BlinkMetrics manages them smoothly. Our code automatically detects when we’re nearing the limit and slows down calls as needed to stay within the limits.
3. Review Team Privacy and Save Connection
After being redirected back to BlinkMetrics, you should see the message, Connection Created Successfully shown on the Connection page. From here, you can see an overview of the following:
- Connection Status
- Date Connected On
- User Connected By
From here, you can also edit the following:
- Connection Name: Used for organizational purposes, each Source can have multiple Connections, so it’s helpful to see who authorized the Connection or which account it was connected to.
- Privacy: You can choose who it’s shared with: Shared with Workspace, Private to Me, or Shared with Team.
When you’re done, click Save, and now you’re done! You can now use the Connection to pull data from the X Ads Source.
